Pokhara – Kande – Pothana (1.950m)

July, 2019

Pokhara to Kande by taxi takes around 2 hours. Kande to Pothana through Australian Camp takes approx. 2,5 hour on feet.

Challenging – this is the beginning. If you’re thinking – really? Very slow or very fast? No no. You can be really sure, it doesn’t matter how long. The most important thing is how you are feeling at the time.

I am leaving Pokhara and I have my first day in front of me. Something new, something different. Three weeks out of civilisation in the mountains – Himalayas, Southern Annapurna. And because of this is my first real and difficult trek, I have decided to take it easy. (I thought It’s gonna be easy).

I have an own guide, his name is Madan and I know it should be awesome. We have met in Kathmandu once before and I knew that this guy is a right person for me. I know his brother from Sydney, I have lived more than four years.

Okay, okay, leaving Pokhara to Kande, our driver dropped us to Kande and we have to reach the Australian Camp (2060m) first. I feel, I have never left Australia 😀 because of the name … There is a rainy season in Nepal, so we are passing the Australian Camp around 1pm and we decided to continue to another camp called Pothana. I am using a new app AllTrails and it looks like it works great, so I see my first result of my trek which is worthy. I have to say as well one more thing that’s if you are travelling during July – the rain season can be very annoying because there is a great environment for leeches – be ready for it 😀

So, here we go: Kande to Pothana (1,950m)

  • Distance: 3,6km
  • Elevation Gain: 378m
  • Moving Time: 1:42:49

I like my result 😀 But !!! This is the shortest way, I have done on my first day. Let’s see what’s gonna happen in other days. We arrived to Pothana around 2pm with a heavy rain, we are staying here. I stayed in Heavens Gate Guest House with the most delicious lunch, dinner and breakfast (of course, because of the first stop, and unexpected . I paid for all of it with accomodation: Rs. 1500

  • Lunch: Vegetarian Dal Bhat Rs. 500
  • Dinner: Rs. 400
  • Vegetarian Noodle Soup Rs. 250
  • Breakfast: Rs.250
  • Tomato omelette Rs. 250
  • Masala Tea Rs. 100
  • Accommodation Rs. 400
